IOL: Vodafone and Sony team up for cellphone music

Vodafone Group is to launch a new music service that will allow customers to access music in tune with their tastes using cellphones, as the mobile giant looks to grow revenues from areas other than phone calls.

The world’s biggest cellphone company by sales said on Monday it had joined hands with Sony NetServices for the Vodafone Radio DJ service that will offer personalised radio channels streamed to customers’ third generation (3G) cellphones and computers.

Houses and businesses in Standerton, Mpumalanga could be in danger of floods if the current water inflow into the Grootdraai Dam near the town continues, the water affairs department said on Monday.

Spokesperson Walter van der Westhuizen said the dam was 114 percent full on Monday afternoon. The inflow into the dam, which is situated on the Vaal River, was 1 200m3 per second, while 610m3 per second were let out.

Again, seen this happen a few times when I stayed there. Crap Town :p

So I buy a video iPod, figuring it would be a cool toy. (Gotta get those toys.) It arrives and I’m ready to give it a whirl. I pony up my two bucks, download the pilot episode of Desperate Housewives, insert a standard A/V-to-RCA cable into the earphone jack and try to play it back on my TV.

No Luck. Damned Apple.

I’m here to tell you not to worry. You don’t have to fork out for an outrageously priced “proprietary” Apple video cable. You don’t even have to buy an expensive dock. You can connect your Video iPod directly to a TV, and you can do it with the ordinary camcorder A/V-to-RCA cable you probably already have lying around your house.

You just have to be tricky.

According to a recent name-and-shame list released by the British foreign office, various embassies in the capital owe a massive £1 million (about R11m) in unpaid fines.

The SA High Commission is one of the biggest transgressors, with £122 590 (about R1.3m) in fines outstanding.
